Install Instructions

Download install program (HOF-x.xx.xxx.exe). This program will detect your Civ4 installation location automatically and install the HOF Mod in the correct location.

Run HOF-x.xx.xxx.exe:

And press "Next".

Accept default by pressing "Next".


How to use

Starting a new game

  1. Start Civ4
  2. Select "Advanced"
  3. Select "Load a Mod"
  4. Select "HOF-x.xx.xxx"
  5. Click "OK"
  6. Click "OK" on Message ask to restart game to load mod
  7. Start new game using the "Custom Game" option

NOTE: The "Play Now" feature does not work with the HOF Mod and will show up as a HOF warning.

If you want to have the mod start automatically when starting Civ4 (so avoiding steps 2..6 above) you can make the following change in the CivilizationIV.ini file:

Before:

; Specify a Mod folder (Mods\Mesopotamia), '0' for none

After

; Specify a Mod folder (Mods\Mesopotamia), '0' for none
Mod = Mods\HOF-x.xx.xxx

Also, rather than changing the ini file, you can make a copy of the Civ4 shortcut and add
mods= \HOF-x.xx.xxx at the end of the Target field.

Continuing a game

  1. Start Civ4 and load the game as usual
  2. Click "OK" on Message ask to restart game to load mod

Config file settings

All of the configuration for this mod is contained in the "Mods\HOF-x.xx.xxx\HOF-x.xx.xxx.ini" file. The file has comments throughout, so should be self-explanatory.

However, editting this file is not necessary as all options are edittable from extra tabs on the Options screen within Civ4. Hovering over the options shows some (hopefully) useful information about the option. Almost all options will affect the game immediately the options screen is closed. So, for instance, the Exotic Foreign Advisor can be enabled while in the middle of game without having to restart Civ4.

The options screen can be reached prior to starting a game by clicking on Advanced:

How to change Player Name:

    • Fixed bug with free barbarian wins handicap settings. Barbarians were winning max 1% of the round when defending instead of 10%, and the player was winning minimum 9% of time when attacked instead of 90%.
